Check whether the filter basket is full and whether the solar panel is clean (dirty panel reduces power). The Surfer S1 collects surface debris only — pool floor debris requires a separate robotic floor cleaner.
Filter Basket Full
The basket fills quickly in high-debris pools. After every 2–3 sessions, remove, empty, and rinse. Debris exiting through the top jets means the basket is full or not seated correctly — click it firmly into place until the latch engages.
Solar Panel Dirty or Shaded
A dirty solar panel reduces power output and can affect motor speed. Wipe the panel with a soft damp cloth. Ensure the skimmer is not operating in a heavily shaded part of the pool — solar panels need direct sunlight to contribute meaningfully.
Robot Stays in One Spot
The Surfer S1 uses pool water flow to assist its surface movement. In calm pools with low circulation, the skimmer may drift to a corner. Ensure the pool pump is running. For pools with dead-flow zones, manually reposition the skimmer every few hours or use the app to activate manual drive mode.
Pool Wind Conditions
Strong wind pushes the skimmer against the wall. In windy conditions, run the skimmer in shorter sessions and check positioning more frequently. Using the app to manually drive the S1 back to open water is the most effective solution for windy days.
