This is expected behavior, not a defect.
This is expected behavior, not a defect. The Scuba V3 disconnects from Wi-Fi the moment it enters the water because 2.4 GHz signals cannot penetrate the pool. The robot runs its stored cleaning program fully autonomously, then returns to the waterline and reconnects to the app within a 10-minute window at the end of the cycle. You will receive a push notification once it surfaces.
Why the V3 Goes Offline Underwater — It’s By Design
Aiper customer support has confirmed in thousands of service interactions: “That is actually normal for the device. Once it goes under the water it will automatically disconnect and do a full cleaning until the battery has run out.” The cleaning program (mode, schedule, duration) is stored locally on the robot before it enters the pool. No live connection is required once cleaning starts.
What Happens at the End of the Cleaning Cycle
When the battery runs low, the V3 automatically drives to the waterline and parks. It stays at the waterline for up to 10 minutes while attempting to reconnect to the saved Wi-Fi network. During this window it pushes a “cleaning complete” notification to the app. The robot also releases its internal water volume at the waterline — it will not be heavy when you pick it up.
What If You Miss the 10-Minute Window
If the robot is not retrieved within 10 minutes of surfacing, it will descend back into the pool and remain there until manually lifted out. Use the included retrieval hook to reach it. Once retrieved and brought within Wi-Fi range, the robot reconnects automatically.
Can You Stop the V3 Mid-Clean?
Not via the app, because the device is offline. To stop the cleaning cycle early, physically lift the robot out of the pool using the hook. The V3 is designed for set-and-forget operation. For in-pool remote control, the Scuba X1 paired with HydroComm maintains connectivity underwater.
Setting Up a Cleaning Schedule Before Entering the Pool
Configure the cleaning schedule, mode, and duration in the Aiper app while the robot is charged and connected (above water). Tap “Start” or activate the schedule, then place the robot in the pool. It will execute the stored program regardless of app connectivity. Ensure the robot is within Wi-Fi range during setup so the schedule transfers correctly.
