The X1 shows a full green light, but the motors only ‘blip’ for a second before stopping and retrying — or it sinks to the floor and shuts off after a few minutes. A full power cycle and recharge usually clears it.
If the Scuba X1 shows a solid or breathing green light but won’t actually run — the motors try to spin for a second, stop, and retry — the most common fix is a full power cycle followed by a proper recharge. Hold the power button for 10 seconds to reset, charge the robot on the wall charger until the LED turns solid green, then place it back in the pool. If it still starts and stops, the cause is usually a stuck motor, a low or uncalibrated battery, or debris in the drive tracks.
What ‘Starts Then Stops’ Actually Means
The start-and-stop behavior (power up for a second, stop, retry) is the motor controller aborting its start sequence. When the X1 can’t confirm the drive motors are spinning freely, it cuts power and retries. This is usually transient — a power cycle resets the controller. The same symptom appears when the battery voltage sags under load, so the controller sees ‘low power’ and shuts off, or when something is physically blocking a wheel or brush roller.
Step-by-Step Power Cycle and Recharge
1. Remove the X1 from the water. 2. Hold the power button for 10 seconds until the LED flashes (a controller reset). 3. Charge on the wall charger until the LED is solid green — not just breathing. 4. Place the X1 in a clear, debris-free spot in the pool. 5. Turn it on and watch for 2–3 minutes. If it now runs continuously, the issue was a transient controller lock or a battery that the ‘green light’ had falsely reported as full.
When It Sinks Then Shuts Off After a Few Minutes
If the X1 drops to the pool floor and shuts off after roughly 5 minutes without moving, this points to a battery that reports charged but can’t hold a load. Check whether the LED is solid green (full) before you submerge it. A battery that jumps from ‘full’ to dead under load is a battery-management fault or a degraded cell. When to Escalate
If a full power cycle plus recharge doesn’t fix it, and the start-stop or early-shutdown behavior persists, the motor controller or battery needs service. Submit a warranty ticket with your serial number and a short video showing the LED state and the start-stop pattern. This is not something a software reset can resolve.
