The Scuba S1 charges normally and the power LED comes on, but the drive wheels never spin — the robot sits still or only twitches. This is a drive-motor fault, not a charging problem and not a cleaning-path issue.
If the Scuba S1 charges and powers on but won’t move, the battery and controller are likely fine — the fault is in the drive system. Start by clearing any hair or debris wrapped around the wheels and brush roller, then fully recharge and do a 10-second power-button reset. If the wheels still won’t turn, the drive motor or its connection has failed and the unit needs warranty service.
What ‘Charges But Won’t Move’ Means
A Scuba S1 that charges and lights up but won’t drive is reporting two healthy systems — the battery and the controller — and one failed system: the drive. The drive has three parts that can fail: the drive wheels (jammed by hair or debris), the drive motor (burned out or with a broken internal connection), and the wiring between the controller and the motor. Because the unit powers on and charges, the battery is almost never the cause here.
Clear Debris, Reset and Test the Drive
1. Remove the S1 from the water and dry it. 2. Check the wheels and the brush roller for hair, string, or leaves, and clear anything wrapped around the drive. 3. Spin each wheel by hand — they should turn freely with light resistance. 4. Fully recharge on the wall charger, then hold the power button for 10 seconds to reset the controller. 5. Place it back in the water and watch whether the wheels now turn. If it drives, a partial jam or a transient controller lock was the cause.
Not the Same as ‘Won’t Clean’
A unit that drives but doesn’t skim debris is a different fault — see our not cleaning diagnosis. A unit that won’t move because the drainage pump is jammed is also separate — see our drainage motor jam guide. This page covers a unit that charges and powers on but won’t drive at all, or only twitches the wheels.
Still Not Working? Contact Support
If clean wheels, a full recharge and a reset don’t get the S1 driving, the drive motor or its wiring has failed. Submit a warranty ticket with your serial number and a short video showing the unit powering on but not moving. Note whether the wheels twitch at all — that detail tells support whether the motor or the connection has failed. This is not something a software reset can fix.
