Scuba S3 Reduced Cleaning Power — Diagnosis & Fix
Reduced suction is most often caused by a clogged filter. If the robot flashes a red LED, the pump motor may be stalled. Clean the filter and check the impeller first.
Reduced cleaning power (weaker suction, debris left behind, slower movement) is most often caused by a clogged filter basket. Remove the filter, empty all debris, and rinse the mesh thoroughly under running tap water — use a hose or pressure sprayer if available, as dried-on debris can be stubborn. If cleaning power is still weak AND the robot flashes a red LED, the pump motor impeller may be stalled by trapped debris. Consult the manual for impeller access and inspection. If the filter is clean and there is no red LED, the pump motor itself may have a fault requiring after-sales service.
Step 1: Deep-Clean the Filter Basket
Remove the filter basket from the robot. Empty all visible debris. Rinse under running tap water, using your fingers to rub the mesh gently and dislodge trapped particles. For filters that have not been cleaned in several cycles, dried-on debris can clog the mesh — use a garden hose with a spray nozzle for stronger flushing. Do not use soap, detergent, or solvents. Allow the filter to air-dry completely before reinserting. A wet or damp filter restricts airflow and reduces suction noticeably.
Step 2: Check for Red LED — Pump Motor Stall
If the robot flashes a red LED while operating, this indicates a motor fault — most commonly a stalled pump impeller. Turn off the robot, remove the filter, and inspect the impeller area (refer to the user manual for the exact access procedure on the S3). Look for hair, string, leaves, or small stones jammed in the impeller blades. Carefully remove any debris with tweezers — do not use metal tools that could damage the impeller. Reassemble and test. If the red LED persists after clearing the impeller, the pump motor itself may be damaged.
Step 3: When It’s a Pump Motor Fault
If the filter is clean, the impeller is clear, and there is no red LED, but suction remains weak, the pump motor may have an internal fault (internal wear or electrical failure). This type of fault requires professional repair. Contact Aiper after-sales support with your device serial number (SN), a description of the symptoms, and the approximate age of the robot. Pump motor issues may be covered under warranty if not caused by misuse.
