The Surfer S1 powers off and back on every 5–10 seconds in a loop, never staying on long enough to skim. This is a power and battery symptom, not a skimming problem.
When the Surfer S1 turns off and on every few seconds, it’s a power-delivery fault — the unit is repeatedly losing power and rebooting. First, fully charge it on the wall charger (not solar) until the LED is solid green, then clean the charging contacts and the solar panel. If the on-off loop continues, the battery has likely degraded or the solar charge circuit is faulty, and the unit needs a warranty replacement.
What the On-Off Loop Means
A 5–10 second on/off cycle is the Surfer S1’s battery-management system shutting the unit down when it detects insufficient voltage, then rebooting when the voltage recovers slightly — creating a loop. It’s most common in older units or units stored for a long time without charging, where the battery can no longer hold a stable charge. It is not a Wi-Fi, motor, or skimming issue.
Charge Fully and Check the Contacts
1. Remove the S1 from the water and dry it. 2. Plug in the wall charger and confirm the adapter LED changes to red (charging). 3. Charge until the adapter LED returns to green (fully charged). 4. Clean the charging-port contacts with a dry cloth — corrosion or debris on the contacts prevents a full charge. 5. Place the S1 back on the water and watch whether the loop stops.
Solar Won’t Recover a Depleted Battery
Do not rely on solar to recover a unit stuck in the on-off loop. The solar panel only supplements a healthy battery during daytime skimming; it cannot charge a battery that has fallen below its safe operating voltage. When the Loop Persists
If a full wall charge and contact cleaning don’t stop the on-off loop, the battery has degraded past recovery or the charge circuit is faulty. This is a warranty-covered fault. Submit a ticket with your serial number and a short video of the loop behavior.
