The Surfer S1 solar panel supplements the battery during daytime operation.
The Surfer S1 solar panel supplements the battery during daytime operation. If solar is not charging: first charge fully via wall charger, place on water in direct sunlight, and observe whether the charging indicator responds to sunlight. Partial shade significantly reduces solar output.
How Solar Charging Works
The solar panel on top of the Surfer S1 generates power when exposed to direct sunlight. While skimming outdoors in the sun, the panel continuously tops up the battery, extending the effective run time. On a bright sunny day, solar charging can extend a full-charge session by 30–60 minutes. In overcast conditions, solar contribution is minimal.
Solar Not Charging — Diagnosis Steps
Step 1: Fully charge via wall charger until the LED shows solid green. Step 2: Place the S1 on the pool surface in direct sunlight (no shade). Step 3: Observe whether the battery indicator in the app shows charging activity or runtime increases. Step 4: If the app shows no solar input after 30 minutes in strong sunlight, the solar panel may have a defect. Contact support with serial number.
Not Holding a Charge at All
If the Surfer S1 drains quickly even on a full wall charge and solar has no effect: the battery may be degraded or the solar panel connection is faulty. Check: (1) How old is the unit? Lithium batteries degrade after 300–400 cycles. (2) Is the solar panel surface clean? Algae or sunscreen film on the panel significantly reduces output. Clean with a soft damp cloth. (3) If neither applies, submit a warranty claim.
Solar Panel Cleaning
Clean the solar panel monthly (or whenever visibly dirty) with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or brushes — they scratch the panel surface and permanently reduce efficiency. After each pool session, rinse the entire unit with fresh water and let the panel air-dry before storage.
