Scuba V3 Stuck on Drain Cover — Diagnosis & Fix

Drain covers with raised profiles can trap the Scuba V3 because its dual-motor drive has lower ground clearance than quad-motor models like the S1 or X1. Start by checking for a firmware update in the Aiper app — newer versions include improved obstacle-escape algorithms that help the robot reverse and re-approach at different angles. Next, try deploying the robot from the opposite side of the pool to change its approach path to the drain area. If the robot still gets stuck, collect the drain cover specifications (diameter, height, brand/model), photos of the stuck position, and the device SN, then upload diagnostic logs and contact Aiper support.
Why Drain Covers Trap Pool Robots
Raised or protruding drain covers create a physical obstacle that the Scuba V3’s dual-motor drive system may not be able to traverse. Unlike the quad-motor Scuba S1 or X1, the V3 has fewer powered wheels and a lower ground clearance, making it more susceptible to getting stuck on uneven pool-floor features. This is a structural limitation of the dual-motor design — the V3 is designed for relatively flat pool bottoms.
Step 1: Firmware Update
Aiper periodically improves obstacle-escape algorithms through firmware updates. Connect to your Scuba V3 in the Aiper app and check for an OTA firmware update. Install the latest version if available. Newer firmware includes refined motor-control logic that helps the robot detect when it is stuck and attempt alternative escape paths (reverse, spin, and re-approach at a different angle).
Step 2: Reposition the Starting Point
Try deploying the robot from a different section of the pool — ideally the opposite side from the drain cover. The V3’s cleaning path is influenced by its entry point; starting farther from the obstruction may prevent it from encountering the drain cover at a difficult angle. If your pool has multiple drain covers, you may need to test different deployment points to find one that minimises contact.
When to Escalate — What to Collect
If the firmware is current and repositioning does not help, gather the following for Aiper support: (1) the device serial number (SN), (2) the location and specifications of the drain cover (diameter, height above floor, brand/model if known), (3) photos or video of the robot stuck on the drain cover, showing the angle and position. Use the app’s Upload Log function, then contact technical support or the after-sales feedback group. In some cases, a drain-cover-compatible firmware patch may be available.
