The X1 turns on and drops to the pool floor, but stops moving and powers off after about five minutes. This is a battery-under-load or motor fault, distinct from a unit that won’t run at all.
If the Scuba X1 turns on, sinks to the floor, then shuts off after roughly five minutes without moving, the battery is reporting charged but can’t deliver power under load — or a motor is stalling and tripping the controller. First fully recharge it and check for a jammed wheel or brush roller. If it still shuts off mid-cycle, the battery or a drive motor needs service.
Why the X1 Shuts Off After a Few Minutes
A mid-cycle shutdown is different from a unit that won’t start. Here the X1 powers on, drives to the floor, and then stops and powers off within a few minutes. The two usual causes are a battery whose voltage sags under load (it reads charged but can’t sustain the drive current) and a motor that stalls and trips the controller into a protective shutdown. Debris wrapped around a wheel or brush roller can also trigger it.
Recharge, Clear Jams and Reset
1. Remove the X1 and inspect the wheels and brush roller for hair, string, or leaves. 2. Clear anything wrapped around the drive and spin the wheels by hand — they should turn freely. 3. Fully recharge on the wall charger until the LED is solid green. 4. Hold the power button for 10 seconds to reset the controller. 5. Return it to the pool and watch whether it now completes a cycle. If it runs continuously, a partial jam or a falsely-reported full battery was the cause.
Shuts Off vs Won’t Run
If the X1 turns on but never runs — the motors ‘blip’ for a second and stop — that’s a different symptom covered in our turns on but won’t run guide. If it shuts off because it can’t hold charge, see our battery and charging guide. A battery that jumps from full to dead under load is a battery-management fault, not a settings problem.
When to Escalate
If clearing debris, a full recharge and a reset don’t stop the mid-cycle shutdown, the battery or a drive motor needs service. Submit a warranty ticket with your serial number and a short video showing the unit turning on, sinking, and powering off. Note how long it runs before shutting down — that timing helps support pinpoint the fault.
