One propeller on the EcoSurfer S2 — usually the left — twitches or stops working entirely, sometimes within the first year. This is a motor fault, not a jam.
If one EcoSurfer S2 propeller stops spinning — it either twitches without turning or goes completely dead — the motor has failed. It’s a common fault that can appear within the first year. First confirm it’s not a jam (the propeller should spin freely by hand). If it spins freely but still twitches or won’t run, the motor needs a warranty replacement.
Twitching vs Jammed — The Same Test
A jammed propeller won’t turn by hand (debris or salt crust locks it). A failed motor’s propeller turns freely by hand but either twitches under power or doesn’t respond at all. If it twitches or stays dead while spinning freely by hand, the motor windings or the driver circuit have failed — cleaning won’t fix it.
Confirm Before You Escalate
1. Turn off and remove the S2. 2. Remove debris from the affected propeller shaft and rinse with fresh water. 3. Spin the propeller by hand; it should turn freely. 4. Power on and watch the affected side. 5. If it twitches or stays still while the other side runs, the motor has failed. If both propellers are dead, this is a different issue — see our motor and propeller guide.
A Motor That Dies Within a Year Is a Defect
The S2’s drive motors are rated to last well beyond a single season. A motor that fails within the first year is a manufacturing defect, not normal wear. Do not keep running the unit on one motor — it will steer in circles, strain the working motor, and can overheat the control board. Stop using it and start a warranty claim.
Warranty Replacement
A failed or twitching drive motor is covered under warranty. Submit a ticket with your serial number and a short video showing the affected propeller twitching or dead while the other side runs. The support team uses this to confirm the fault and process the replacement.
