Scuba S3 Stuck in a Dead Loop — Recovery Guide
A stuck-in-loop pattern is usually caused by dirty ToF sensors, complex pool terrain, or a sensor fault. Clean the sensors, try a different entry point, or switch to Random Mode as a fallback.
When the Scuba S3 repeats the same path segment in a loop without progressing, three factors are most likely: (1) Dirty ToF sensors — wipe all sensor lenses with a dry microfibre cloth. (2) Complex pool terrain — irregular shapes, tight corners, or raised features confuse the navigation algorithm; try deploying from a different entry point. (3) As a fallback, switch the cleaning mode to Random Mode in the Aiper app (the S3 defaults to adaptive mode switching when path planning fails). If the loop persists across all modes, the sensor module may have a hardware fault.
Step 1: Clean All Sensors
The S3’s navigation system depends on clean sensor inputs. Use a dry microfibre cloth to gently wipe all ToF sensor lenses (front and sides — small, dark, round windows) and any other sensors on the robot body. Even a thin film of pool chemicals or dust can confuse the path-planning algorithm. After cleaning, run a short test cycle to confirm the robot now navigates normally.
Step 2: Change the Entry Point
In pools with complex geometry (freeform, L-shaped, kidney-shaped, or with raised steps/benches), the S3’s ToF-based path planning may struggle with certain approach angles. Remove the robot from the pool and re-deploy it from the opposite side or a different section. The new starting position gives the navigation algorithm a fresh reference frame, which often resolves stuck-in-loop behaviour without any hardware changes.
Step 3: Switch to Random Mode (Fallback)
If sensor cleaning and repositioning don’t help, switch the S3 to Random Mode in the Aiper app. Random Mode disables the structured path-planning algorithm and uses a simpler, randomised movement pattern. While less efficient for coverage, it is highly effective at breaking out of dead-loop patterns. The S3 is designed to automatically fall back to adaptive/random mode when it detects repeated path failures — this is a built-in recovery mechanism that prevents the robot from wasting battery on failed paths.
Step 4: When to Escalate
If the robot loops persistently in Random Mode as well, or if the dead-loop behaviour started suddenly after months of normal operation, the ToF sensor module may have a hardware fault. Contact Aiper after-sales support. Provide: (1) device serial number (SN), (2) a description or video of the looping pattern, (3) your pool shape and dimensions. Upload diagnostic logs via the Aiper app before contacting support.
