The EcoSurfer S2 shows 0% standby, intermittently turns on and off all day and night, and won’t run its schedule — even after a full wall charge to 100%. This is a battery-management fault.
If the EcoSurfer S2 charges to 100% on the wall charger but drops to 0% standby the moment you put it in the water — then intermittently turns on and off and ignores its schedule — the battery or its charge circuit has failed. A healthy S2 holds its charge in standby and only draws down gradually. A unit that jumps from 100% to 0% needs a warranty replacement; it is not fixable by recharging or resetting.
What ‘0% Standby’ Means
‘0% standby’ is the S2’s state when it’s idle (not skimming) and the battery reports empty. A healthy S2 shows a meaningful percentage in standby and only drops slowly. If the S2 reads 0% standby immediately after a full wall charge, the battery isn’t holding charge — either the cells are degraded or the battery-management circuit is misreporting. This is separate from normal solar-charging behavior.
Confirm It’s the Battery, Not the Charger
1. Charge the S2 on the wall charger until the app or LED shows 100%. 2. Unplug and immediately check the standby percentage. 3. If it still shows 0% (or drops to 0% within minutes), the battery is at fault. 4. If it holds 100% out of water but drops only after you submerge it, check for water ingress at the charging-port seal. 5. Note the serial number (starts with S2S, for example S2S52005718) before contacting support. See our battery and charging guide for normal charging behavior.
Why the On-Off Loop and Failed Schedule Happen
The intermittent on/off all day and night is the same battery fault: the S2 tries to wake, sees 0% (or a sagging voltage), and shuts back down in a loop. Because it can’t stay powered, it also can’t wake to run its saved schedule. This is a single root cause — a failed battery — not three separate problems. Re-entering the schedule won’t help until the battery is replaced.
Warranty Replacement
A battery that jumps from 100% to 0% standby is a covered warranty fault. Submit a ticket with the serial number, the exact behavior (100% charge, then 0% standby, then an on-off loop), and a short video if possible. Do not open the unit or attempt a battery swap yourself — the S2 battery is not user-serviceable, and opening it voids the warranty.
