If you’re struggling to open the filter compartment, you’re not alone — it’s one of the most common support requests. The latch is near the top handle and can be stiff on new units.
Locate the latch or seam near the top handle; press the latch and gently lift the top shell upward until it pops open. Once open, grasp the filter basket by its handle and lift it straight up and out of the housing. On some models the latch is very tight — apply firm, even pressure rather than pulling from one corner.
Step-by-step for all Scuba models
1. Turn off the robot and place it on a flat surface. 2. Find the seam — it runs horizontally just below the top edge, along the side of the machine. 3. Press the latch (on the side or near the handle, depending on model). You should feel a click. 4. Lift the top shell — it hinges open. On tight units, wiggle gently while lifting. 5. Grab the basket handle and pull straight up. The basket sits snugly inside the compartment — a bit of resistance is normal.
Model-specific locations
Scuba S1 / SE / N1: Latch is on the side, about 3 cm below the top rim. Scuba V3 / X1: Latch integrated into the carry handle — squeeze both sides of the handle grip. Scuba N1 Plus: Two side latches — press both simultaneously.
Common mistakes
Don’t pry with a tool — this cracks the latch mechanism. Don’t pull the basket by the mesh — always use the handle or frame. If the basket is stuck after opening the lid, it may be wedged against debris — gently rock it side-to-side while lifting.
If the latch is still stuck
On brand-new units the rubber seal can create a strong vacuum. Try this: open the drain plug on the bottom of the unit first to release air pressure, then try the latch again. If it remains stuck after multiple attempts, contact Aiper support with a short video of the latch area.
