Device Already Bound — How to Unbind Your Surfer from a Previous Owner
If you purchased a used Surfer S1 or EcoSurfer S2 and see a “Device already bound” error in the Aiper app, follow these four steps to unbind it and connect to your own account.
Step 1: Perform a 10-Second Hardware Reset
Press and hold the power button on your Surfer for 10 full seconds until the LED flashes rapidly three times. This performs a local reset but does not remove the cloud binding.
Step 2: Ask the Previous Owner to Unbind
The fastest solution: contact the previous owner and ask them to open the Aiper app, go to Device Settings → Remove Device. Once they unbind from their account, you can add the Surfer to yours immediately.
Step 3: Try Binding from a Different Phone
If the previous owner is unreachable, try installing the Aiper app on a different phone and attempt pairing. In rare cases, the binding lock is tied to a specific phone’s Bluetooth MAC address.
Step 4: Contact Aiper Support with Serial Number
If steps 1–3 fail, contact Aiper Support at [email protected] with:
- The Surfer’s serial number (found on the underside of the device)
- Proof of purchase (if available)
- A clear photo of the “Device already bound” error screen
Aiper Support can clear the cloud binding from their backend, usually within 1–2 business days.
Why Does the “Device Already Bound” Error Happen?
Each Aiper Surfer is cloud-locked to a single Aiper account for anti-theft protection. When a previous owner sells or returns the device without unbinding it in the app, the new owner sees this error. It’s a security feature, not a defect.
How Long Does Support Take to Unbind a Device?
Most unbind requests are processed within 24–48 hours. If you haven’t received a response after 2 business days, follow up with your original ticket number.
